AiARTON, April 22. Mr K n. Gordon. M.P., and Mrs Gordon have gone south to attend the Centennial functions at Akaroa and will later go on to Dunedin. Mrs L. K. Meßeth, accompanied by her father, Mr W. G. Johnson, has returned home after a holiday in Auckland and the Bay of Plenty. Mrs Anderson, of Coromandel, is a guest of Mrs Meßeth. The Ilawkoslone Golf Club opened its season on Saturday. Seventy-four players participated in a mixed Canadian foursome competition, the best scores returned being: M. Atkinson and Miss V. Grace, 47—30—17; J. Hunter and Miss G. Whale, 49—31—13; W. Munrow and Mrs Green, 46 —26—20. The annual meeting of the Marton Hairier Club was held on Saturday, when a credit balance of £3 11s was shown in the funds. Oliiccrs elected are: —Patron, Mr F. Purnell; president, Air J. D. Taylor and officers ex officio ; selector and programme committee, Messrs F Hill, G. J-lendcrson and C. Hill. The Rugby football season in Alarton began on Saturday, Old Boys beating their old opponents, Bulls, lo the tune of 24 points to 11. Results of the Rangitikci Sub-Union’s competitions' are: —Seniors: Old Boys 24 v. Bulls 11; Rata 14 v. Ilun(crvillo 6; juniors, Old Bovs 18 v. Bulls 9; thirds, School 11 v. Old Boys 8. The finals in the full rink championship wore played on the Alarton Bowling Club's green on Saturday •afternoon between rinks skipped by Hempleman (who substituted for Atkinson) and Bland (who substituted for Hunter). In the final g-ame (21 heads), Bending, Baines, Alclndoe and Hempleman beat Green. Gronn, Dixon and Bland, 21—17. As Hunter had two “lives” a second game of 10 heads was played and Hempleman was again victorious by 14 to 5, so that Atkinson’s rink became the champions.
