WORK AT AWAPUNI. PREPARATIONS FOR WAVICRLEY. RIDING ENGAGEMENTS. (By “Spectator.”) Some horses with engagements at the Wavorloy meeting were worked at Awapuni this morning, but there were not many outstanding gallops. The course proper was open for fast work, with the flags in the middle, and conditions were excellent. Clarion Call was given a working gallop on the course proper, and Bryce Street was worked on the inside. Gay Jean and Mick the Miller were companions in a gallop over six furlongs. They did the distance in 1.25. Aurora’s Star and Royal Silk were given a trial over a mile, and were joined at the six furlongs by Renascor. The mile was completed in 1.53. Hunting Lore and Colonel Bogey were companions in a good work-out over a mile, the. last six furlongs of which were covered in 1.26. Courting went alone over five furlongs and did the distance in 1.11 1-5. Caution was given an easy gallop over six furlongs, which were completed in 1.22. G. R. Tattersall will ride Caution at Waverley and will also have the mounts on Chief Lord and Counter. S. Waddell will ride Courting. Brazil galloped three furlongs in 41sec., and Amyns Leigh was sent over halt'-a-ISsilo, taking 53« cc. Quadroon was given a gallop on one of the inside tracks and ended by sprinting over three furlongs. Sloeveless was gulloped over six furlongs on the plough. B. 11. Morris will ride Colossal Chief at Waverley and a candidate from F. C. McHugh’s stable in the maiden race.
