BADMINTON.

There has been a furLlior substantial increase in the playing membership, which now totals 0212, says the annual report of the New Zealand Badminton Federation. This figure is a record. The report mentions that the Alanawatu Association last season Iran a membership of 254, air increase from 214 in the previous year. The net result of the. year's operations was a loss of £69 18s Sd. This was entirely caused hv the visit to Australia. .It could be said, however, that such loss should not preclude the association from planning any future visits overseas in years to conic. Probably the proper view of the position would Ire to take the result of the last, two years together, embracing a visit from the Australian team and the return visit l>v New Zealand last year. The not result was that both visits hud been carried out at a cost of £lB Dls, which must bo considered very satisfactory. Efforts wore made for supplies ol satisfactory shuttles at reasonable prices. A complete scheme was drawn up hut first even more stringent import restrictions and then the win made it impossible. Since then a great (leal of work and worry had been caused by the possibility of a serious shortage of shuttles during the coming season. Even at this late stage the matter was not settled, and it depended on the decision of the Atinistor fm Finance whether badminton would have to he suspended for a time.
