EXTRACTS FROM “STANDARD,” APRIL 20. 1910. Mr J. A. Nash had been re-elected Mayor of Palmerston North unopposed for his third year of office. The decision of the Manawatu A. and P. Association to continue the three days’ fixture in preference to reverting to a two days’ Show had met with the almost entire approval of committee members. Colyton had been admitted. to the Manawatu Rhsbv Union’s junior competitions conditional upon a suitable ground being available. There were five teams in the senior competition, nine in the junior, five in the third grade and four in the fourth grade. Halley’s Comet had been observed from Marion at 5 o’clock the previous morning, appearing in the eastern skv as a small, hazy star with a small tail.. The heaviest seas .over known had been breaking on the foreshore at Plimmerton, buildings having been undermined or washed away. The water had reached up to the railway gate.
