(From Our Own Correspondent.) TIAKITAIIUNA, Alarch 23. At tlie annual meeting of the Women’s (Institute tfiere was a good attendance. Airs 11. N. AlcEwen presided and extended a welcome to Mesdames Simon and Titcotnbe (Manawatu executive) and Mrs Smith. The secretary (Aliss M. Rowland) presented a report which stated that the meetings had been both pleasant and helpful. The competitions had been well patronised. Thanks were extended to the president and committee. Appreciation wits shown of the kindness of tho Hall Committee for the free use of the hall. The war had brought a field for organisation and activities with which institutes might well be concerned. Any co-opera-tion or movement having for its object the speedy termination of hostilities would he the predominating thought. The treasurer (Airs M. Richardson) presented a report which showed a credit balance. Airs Titcombe took tho chair and the election of oflicers resulted : Mrs H. N. AlcEwen, reelected president; Miss M. Rowland, reelected secretary; Miss L. Ilearsc.y, trasnrer: committee, Mrs 0. Croucher, Aliss E. McEwen, Airs W. Davies and Aliss K. Walker. Miss Voss was appointed in charge of the points competitions. Preliminary arrangements were made for tho birthday. The competitions resulted : Apple jelly, Airs F. AlcEwen 1. Mrs D. Rowland 2, Aliss E. AlcEwen 3. Bloom, Aliss M. Rowland 1, Aliss Walker 2, Mrs Croucher and Miss Voss equal 3. For the monthly competitions during the year tho winner was Miss E. AlcEwen with Mrs D. Rowland second. The best bloom winners were Mrs D. Rowland and Miss M. Rowland (equal), with Mrs N. P. Nielsen third. Afternoon tea was served by Alesdame.s W. Francis and T. Hawke. Mrs Croucher, thanked the executive members for their attendance. A fino day assured the school children for a happy time when their annual picnic was held at the Esplanade. Tho playground was well-patronised, and ice creams, sweets and soft drinks were distributed Race results were:—Primers, R. Croucher and Joan Vickery 1, S. Wilmhurst 3. Sack race, L. Dover 1, D. Ilawko 2. T. King 3. Potato race, IT. Lover 1, Joyce Hawke 2. Skipping race, Valerie Rowland 1, Helen McEwen 2. Obstacle race, G. Voss 1. Lola Rowland 2. Married men’s race. All’ M. A 7 oss 1, Air N. P. Nielsen 2 Ladies’ chain stopping, Airs l l '. AlcEwen 1, Airs S. Nielsen 2; men, Air Nielsen 1, Air C. Croucher 2. Mrs L Webb and Mr W. Smith, of Hamilton, have been, the guests of Air and Airs D. Rowland. Airs W. Fell is spending a holiday in Ilawcra. Aliss Hobbs, of Dunedin, is visiting Airs D. Buchanan.
