REPORTS TO BOARD, FLOODING NEAU BATHS. _ Reports covering recent school activities were adopted at a meeting of the Palmerston North. High Scnools Board of Governors, last night. Those present were Messrs M. H. Oram (.chairman), Mrs M. Aitchison, Messrs J. A. Nash, G. Tremaine, AV. H. Brown, N. P. Nielsen, A. A. Langley, A. J. Graham, YV. it. Birnie, and Colonel J. H. Whyte. The chairman reported that the board had experienced considerable difficulty in rectifying the hooding which was prevalent on the area near the boys’ baths. The architect called at the Girls’ High (School and made a recommendation that the bicycle sheds and the adjacent area be concreted at an estimated cost of £7O. An application for a grant to cover this liad been sent to the department. The principal of the Technical School (Mr H. M. Scott) reported that the total number of pupils lor the week ending March 1 was 1093 (593 day, 500 evening) compared with 1203 last year. There were 131 train pupils and 117 bus pupils. Weekly hour enrolments totalled 17,490. Because of tho large enrolments for dressmaking it had been necessary to form a now class on. Wednesday evenings, lhrougli lack of support it had not been possible to open the class in aeio engines Mrs A. M. Essex was thanked lor presenting a framed picture to the school. c It was decided to send a letter ol sympathy to Miss Cooper in the death of her father. , The estimated library .grant for the Technical School was raised from Bio to £l5O. , ~ , Tile rector of the Boys High School (Mr J. Murray) reported: The roll number, for March was 366, comprising 130 new pupils and 246 old. The average attendance was 350. The Parents’ Association was thanked for presenting four side-drums lor the use of the drum and bugle band. The principal of the Girls’ High School (Miss E. E. Stephens) reported that the roll number was at present 266, three girls having obtained positions from the senior commercial classes. The average attendance for tile last four weeks had been 260. Problems of organisation had been very greatly simplified by the authorisation by the department of the appointment of Miss Daniell supernumerary assistant. Thanks were due to Mr Watchorn for the gift to the school of a handsome cup to be awarded to the intermediate swimming champion —an award made this year for the first time. It was proposed in future to present an interhouse cup for swimming and lor basketball —the cup to be held by tlie head of the house winning the most points in the aggregate. Mr Sankey had offered to donate tho swimming clip. These gifts were intended to foster the house or club spirit in sport, and such generous and kindly encouragement from the parents was very much appreciated by the whole school. Thanks were also due to the Parents’. Association for a gift of £2 log towards the dux medals last year. It was decided to thank those contributing gifts to tho Girls’ High School.
