FORCE ONLY SOLUTION.
DEALING WITH GERMANY
LONDON, March 17. In a broadcast statement, the Liberal Leader (Sir Archibald Sinclair) said that it was idle to ask why peace should not he made now before great battles and bloodshed began. 'The answer was that the Nazi Government rested on and respected nothing but force.
“Peace with justice now is a downright dishonest slogan,” he said, “because nobody can honestly believe that Hitler is interested in justice.” The British people were determined on victory, but victory would not alone guarantee peace and prosperity. Victory would merely give them the opportunity to break down trade barriers and to create a new world order. “It is because Britain and France can and will resist that the German army which marched so triumphantly through Poland pauses icspoctfully at the Maginot Line,” he said. “Warsaw was bombed because the Poles could not retaliate. London is so far spared because we can retaliate.”
