BANK HOLIDAYS.
(To the Editor.)
Sir, —How much longer is the business community to be inconvenienced bv the banks’ observance of Saints’ days? There is not the slightest reason for the banks to dislocate busmens every now and again as they are doing to-day (Alondav). Even the bank cierks do not want the holiday, because they will have to work like Trojans tomorrow to make up the lost time. This observance of Saints’ days is an oldfashioned custom which should have been abolished long ago. If the Associated Chambers of Commerce wish to do something really practical they should insist that the banks carry on tlie same as any other business.—l am, etc., BUSINESS. Palmerston North. IS/3/40.
