BASEBALL.

FRIENDLY MATCHES. Through the courtesy of their Commanding Officer. Squadron-Leader Gcrrand, it was possible for Union Airways’ baseball team to meet, a team representing the R.N.Z.A.F. at Oliakea. Though the weather was very overcast and windy an interesting game resulted in a win by two runs for the Air Force. Thanks are due to the station sports officer, Flight-Lieutenant Yates, for his cooperation in making the match possible. Sergeant Hannah’s pitching made it difficult for Union Airways’/ batsmen, The team's success was due to the clever leadership of their skipper, J. Ansel!. Union Airways, led by R. McDonald, played an excellent game, but their perhaps, cautious start was their downfall. Their catcher seem? to have missed a number of easy balls. Air Force were represented by the following : J. Anscll (captain). Hannah, McLellan, Burbridgc, Dew, Prcbcrt, Stephenson, Edwards and Welle. .'Union Airways: E. R. McDonald (captain), MacGregor, Openshaw, Tawharu, Walker, Cossleit, King, Symons, Houghton, Shader and Fleming. The game was umpired by Mr C. P. Gandy, of Highways team, Palmerston North. . The return match was hold under ideal conditions at Milson Aerodrome 4 when Union Airways team won by 20/runs, the score being 30 runs to 10. Union Airways were led by McDonald lo a decisive victory. The Air Force boys, led by R. Probert, played a hard game, but wore unable to match the Airways well-trained team. T'no teams were treated to afternoon tea. catered for by the Union Air (vny = social committee, and arranged and superintended by Mrs Koehler. The game was controlled by Mr D. MacGregor, of Union Airways Club. The Cardinals team came to Palmerston North on the invitation of the Manawatu Baseball League and played a friendly n-amc against a team from the local clubs. The Wellington team were too good for the local hoys and the game ended Cardinals 24. Palmerston North 12. 'lhc teams and visitors were entertained at afternoon tea provided by tlio Manawatu League and catorcd for by Mrs Koehler at Milson Aerodrome ■
