Canada’s growing economic strength is shown by recent trade figures. Compared with December, 1938 (08,888,000 dollars), December, 1939, shows a 47 per cent, rise in the value of exports at 101,021,522 dollars.

Taking the four-month period from the outbreak of the war, the figure for domestic exports is 370.075.7J9 dollars, compared with 317,342.243 dollars for the similar period of 1938. ’lbis shows an increase of 17 per cent. The gross value of agricultural production ior 1939 reached a total of 1,133,545,000 dollars, representing the highest figure since .1930 and an advance of 97,000.000 dollars over 1933. Federal revenue returns show an equally satisfactory increase, while the financial resources available arc instanced bv the over-subscription by nearly one-third of the 200,000.000 dollars worth of 31 per cent, bonds, which were recently offered to the public. '£hc Postmaster-General (Mr C. G. Power) revealed that the present production of Government small arms ammunition plants was 70,000,000 rounds a year. It would reach 150,000,000 before the end of the year. Schools in Western Canada under the Empire scheme for training airmen will use petrol from the Turner Valley oilfield, where production has been increased.
