Mr E. V. West, of Palmerston North, left this afternoon to attend the annual conference of the Now Zealand Institute of Architects in Wellington. A resolution of sympathy with the relatives of the late Mr C. D. Fraser, a past president of the Palmerston North Golf Club and for many years a member of the committee, was carried at a meeting of the committee this week

Mr Dudley Lovelock, youngest son of Mr and Sirs D. J. Lovelock, lias enlisted and entered camp. Mr Lovelock has been in the employ of the Palmerston North Hospital Board for some years, and has latterly been in charge of the stores department. The Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors, at its meeting last evening, decided to extend congratulations on his appointment to command the Gth Infantry Brigade of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force to Colonel IT. E. Barrowclough, an old pupil of the Boys’ High School. The British Under-Secretary of Air (Captain H. H. Balfour) landed in England yesterday after a 10-days’- tour by air of the Royal Air Force units in the Near and Middle East, states a London cablegram. He flew approximately 7000 miles and visited the units in Palestine, Transjordan, Iraq, and Egypt. The Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors, last evening, took the opportunity of placing on record appreciation of the long and efficient service in the cause of secondary school education given by Mr 0. Monrad, the retiring Government nominee, who has been on the board since 1925.

Dr. J. Gibson Inkster, of Toronto, who has been supplying St. John’s Church pulpit, Wellington, for the last five months, lias agreed to remain in Wellington for a further two months after the expiry of his six months’ engagement. He will leave for Canada with Mrs Inkster about the end of May. At the meeting of the Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors last evening, appreciation was expressed of the splendid services that had been rendered to education in New Zealand by Mr N. T. Lambourne, M.A., the retiring Director of Education, and it was resolved to write and wish him many happy years of retirement. Mr W. It. Birnie last evening took his seat on the Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors as the Government representative. The chairman (Mr M. H. Oram) welcomed Mr Birnie, commenting . that members were well aware of the valuable services rendered to education by the new member. Mr Birnie was formerly a Wanganui Education Board representative on the High Schools Board. The remark that the school had been tlie richer for his presence and would be the poorer for his absence was passed concerning Mr J. J. Stevenson, by the chairman (Mr M. H. Oram) at last evening’s meeting of the Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors. For the past 20 years Mr Stevenson has been agricultural master on the Boys’ High School staff and inis leaving to take up an appointment with the Wellington Education Board The Board of Governors decided to wish him every success in his new sphere and to record its appreciation of Ids services. The rector of the Boys' High School (Mr J. Murray), in his report, acknowledged Mr Stevenson’s long and faithful service t:> the school in his special department, in which he had shown unfailing interest and enthusiasm. The school wished him well in the responsible position to which he had been appointed. Mr Stevenson will take up his new appointment towards the end of next month.
