MANAVATU CI.GIVS MEETING. SUCCESSES OF TRAINERS. (By “Square-Gaiter.”) 'J'be most successful trainer at the Manuwatu Trotting Club’s recent meeting was L. F. Berkctt (Nelson) with five winners. In addition ho was four times in the place money. J. 11. Gerrard (Ashhurst) and C. S. Donald (Belfast) both produced two winners, and trainers with one win each were J. F. Cotton, O. Jf. Gooilall, M. Stewart. J. A. Wall, W. Orange, A. F, Liddell and J. J. and E. N. Ivcnner--1 oy Leading Reinsmen. With three winning drives, L. F. Berk ett- was the leading roinsnian at the Manawatu meeting. Ilis soil Noel, having his first race driving, drove Gunman oil both of his winning starts. Other reinsmen with two wins wore R. Donald, A. \V. Broughton and J. A. Gcrranil. W. Orange, A. G. Farland, M. Stewart, J. A. Wall and A. F. Liddall drove one winner each Winning Owners. The successes of Mongolian and' Warship gave their owner, Mr \V. S. Clark, £260 in stakes. He was the leading owner at the meeting. The success of Floncstus in the Cup gave Mr \V. J. Gudsell £215. and Mr \V T. Lowe gained £2lO as owner of Molly Direct. Other owners who won £IOO or more were Mr J. L. Hill, £165; Mr 1.. F. Borketl, £I6Q; Mr \v. D. Reid, £140; Messrs E. J. Kniinorloy and S. Henderson. £110; Mr A. B. do Malmanchc £lO5 anil Mr J. F. Cotton £IOO.. Trotting Sires. About 10 sires were represented among the winners, and triple wins were accredit ed to the stock of Jack Potts, the leading sire in New Zealand and Man-o-War. well up in the list. The Jack Polls winners were lloncslus, Molly Direct and Seraphima, For Mnn-o-War, Gunman won twice, anil Warship once. Among the unhoppled trotters Worthy Bingen dominated the events, his stock winning three out of four events, in which they started. His winners were Big Kauri. Audrey’s Last and Arapai. Consistent Horses. Some consistent horses were seen in action, and probably the most markedly so was the Wellington horse Stepson, three times third and once a winner in four starts. Mongolian (L. F. Berkctt) was first once, third twice and fourth once. An even heller -bowing was that of Gunman (1,. F. Berkctt)* probably the most pro raising liorso seen at tbc meeting; bo was twice first, once second and once fourth. Molly Direct, Television, Electric Bell, Arapai, Big Kauri and Expensive Lady were oilier consistent performers. Trotting Jubilee.

The New Brighton Trotting Club, which held its jubilee meeting on Saturday, bad a long and arduous figh t for the advancement of tile light harness sport. The provision of a stake of £IOOO had long been in the minds of oflieials of the club and this was provided in the Jubilee Handicap, over a mile and tt-ltalf, the fastest class race over that distance ovci run in the Dominion, which was won by Pot f.nck. Fifty years ago the tolalisator investments amounted to £762. The amount bandied on Saturday was £40,081. Trainer as Starter. The starting of the well-known Awapuni trainer, Mr L. G. Morris, at the Mautiwulu Trolling Club's meeting, was the subject of mueli favourable comment. Mr Morris volunteered for the position because of the illness of the regular starter, Mr I). Slovens, and filled the position extremely capably. The starting in every race left nothing to be desired and Mr Morris was congratulated on all sides for bis work. World’s Record. Jn rimning second to Pol Luck in the Jubilee Handicap at New Brighton, Plu■jns, trained by S. Donald, did 3min. 11 3-ssue* off 24 yards. This is a world’s

grass track record for a mile and a-liajf. 1 Phillis is owned by Mr W. J. Gudsell, another of whose horses, 1 lonestiis, won the ivlanawalii Trotting Cup on Saturday.
