Tile Mayor stated that ho was pleased at the representative gathering, and pro needed to outline the various patriotic ap-

peals. Ho paid a tribute to the excellent work of the Salvation Army and the Y.M.C.A. During 1914-18 they had raisod the amazing total of £560,000 in New Zealand. In this war the Government had decided that money for patriolio purposes should be paid into ouo central fund and this disbursed to various organisations.

Captain Laskie thanked Mr Siddells for the great interest be bad taken in the appeal. The Army had been stopped from collecting money by any other means. However, the Army, the Y.M.C.A., the Red Cross and St. John Ambulance would be able to got grants from the massed funds.

Many suggestions as to the best means of collecting money in the district were made. One was that people should pay in one shilling a week or over some other period. Another was that there should be a personal canvass through the district, or that the borough and county be divided into wards and a warden appointed for each little area and given the responsibility of collecting from tho people in it. It was decided to leave tho question to the discretion of tho executive committee. It w T ae decided to have a general committee, form e l by the 20 persons present, and then to elect an executive from them.

Mr Sturton was elected president, and Mr Smythe treasurer. It was decided to have on this executive Rev Mr Armstrong, Messrs. Siddells, IJodgins, Bryant, Carruthers, Cox, Carthew, Watts, Captain Laskie. Miss Cody, and a representative from the Red Cross, the R.S.A., Women’s Division, and the Women’s Institute.
