TEACHING PROFESSION.

MORE INTEREST WANTED, Disappointment at the small number of boys with the quality of leadership who" were entering the teaching profession was voiced by the chairman of the Palmerston North High Schools Hoard of Governors (Mr M. H. Oram), when the report of the rector of the Boys’ High School (Mr J. Murray) was being considered, last evening. Mr Oram said that during his time with the Wanganui Education Board lie bad felt then, as now, that there were many boys in the secondary schools who, with their quality of leadership, should consider teaching as a profession. ft was a profession of the highest standing, although not one noted for its financial emoluments. “I tried while a member of the Education Board,” Air Oram added, “to bring under the notice of boys the value to the community of the teaching profession and the high regard in which it should be held when considering a career.” The chairman thought that more could bo done by headmasters and others concerned to influence boys. Boys to-day considered money mostly when looking for a profession, and there were many with the quality of leadership who were not going into the profession but would do so if they were handled the right way. Tt was deplorable when one saw such a small number of hoys entering the training school. This year there had only been three from the Palmerston North Boys’ High School.
