(From Our Own Correspondent.) OTAKI, J-an. 29. Heavy rain fell in Olaki this afternoon and water channels, always a source of annoyance, quickly overflowed, flooding the footpaths to the inconvenience of pedestrians. Flaying for the country pennants on Saturday, the Oiaki Railway Bowling Club won two games, and lost two, while Otaki and Paraparaumu won one each, losing one. Yesterday a rink journeyed from Otaki to Petone to indulge in games.. The death has occurred at Motueka of Mr Jack Ropata, brother to Mr J. Ropata, of Otaki, and father to B. and R. Ropata, the local footballers. At the Wellington Kennel .Club’s show on Saturday Mr W. H. Reynolds secured no fewer than eight first prizes and four seconds with his two collie dogs—Clenrossio Jean, and Glenrossie Lady Patricia. In a tennis match played yesterday Waikanao defeated Tc Horo. The wind on Sunday night was responsible for razing to the ground six large marquees, erected for the Centennial celebrations to be held here next week. The marquees were badly damaged. Mrs Macßue, who has been staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs W. J. Blake, of Te Horo, has left for her home at Christchurch. Mr D. Richards, who has been seriously ill, is reported to be making steady progress.
