AUCKLAND'S RECEPTION.
MAJOR-GENERAL FREYBERG. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Jan. 2. Troops of the Second New Zealand Division encamped in the Northern Alilitary District met their commanding officer, Alajor-General B. C. I royberg, V.C., at parades at the Hopuhopu and Papakura camps to-day. Both parades were carried through in a manner which, proved that the raw recruits of a few months ago have now become very fine soldiers, and AlajorGeneral Frey berg expressed great satisfaction with what he saw at botli camps. . Even after an extremely busy day Alajor-General Freyberg and his staff had no respite. They left immediately for Auckland to attend a civic reception before catching the Limited express for Wellington. With enthusiasm that was remarkable, the a-udi-ence of 3000 at the civic reception at the Town Hall greeted and paid a tribute to Alajor-General Freyberg. who spent little more than two hours in the city It was necessary for the civic reception to l>e tendered at 6 p.m , when he was received with a general salute bv a guard of 40 veterans of the-Great War under Captain Judson, \ .(L The two Victoria Cross holders exchanged a long and hearty handshake and spoke for a few minutes before the inspection. Proceedings at the civic reception were very enthusiastic.
