MARTON MEETING.

OWNER’S SEVEN WINS. SECOND DAY’S RACING. NINE AWAPUNI WINNERS. (By “Spectator.”) Awapuni stables provided nine of the winners at the Alarton Jockey Club’s summer meeting, which was concluded yesterday in fine but windy weather. A. feature of the racing was the remarkable record established by the Huntcrville sportsman Mr T. A. Duncan, whose horses won seven races, including double successes by Royal Sign and Laughing Lass, the latter winning over nine furlongs, the longest distance which she has yet encompassed. Mr Duncan is invariably repi'rsen ted by several winners at this fixture, and his horses won half of the programme yesterday. Their total earnings at the meeting were £973. The totalisator handled £16,021. 10s. compared with £18,831 for Ihe second day last year, a decrease of £2829 10s. The turnover for the meeting was £38,395 10s, a total decrease of £7267 10s NECKLACE DEAD-HEAT. Haupongi and Joe Louis, who filled the first two places on the opening day. dead-heated for first in the Ladies’ Necklace, the former hanging on to fight off determinedly Joe Louis’s challenge over the final furlong. Haupongi led into the-straight from Battle Pomp and Joe Louis after Lacan and Kohika, the early pacemakers, had drifted. Battle Pomp was third, followed by Lacan and Baron Bold. AN EFFORTLESS WIN. Wings of .Song, hacked down to a very small price, had an effortless win in the Junction Plate. Making his own pace. Wings of Song won as he liked, pulling up, to give his owner his fourth success at the meeting. Talenta did best of the others. HIGH PEER’S HURDLES. High Peer, after three minor placings, won the Tutaenui Hurdles after making the pace practically over the last mile. Gold Tray set off at a fast pace and flew the first hurdle, but then had one or two narrow escapes until finally crashing at the last fence after slm had been passed by High Peer and Limbohm, who made up considerable ground over tho last half-mile, but had no chance of catching High Peer. Esperance Bay was a poor third. ROYAL SIGN AGAIN. Royal Sign scored a double when he took the Wairoma Handicap from his stableniate, Kotua, in a hard finish. Royal Sign looks likely to be a very useful horse later over a middle distance. This was his third success to date. Kincorn got a flying start and led until tho turn for home, where lie was headed off by Royal Sign. Bronze Lass and Kotua threw out challenges, and Kotua just failed. Bronze Lass, carrying 101 b. overweight, was beaten into third place. LAUGHING LASS'S STAKES. Running the distance for the first time, Laughing Lass won the Alclwortli Stakes to give her owner his sixth success, and another double winning bracket to her Awapuni stable. Old Surrey made the pace practically to the straight, with Play On and Laughing Lass in behind him. The latter went to the front first in the run Home, and then Play On challenged, Nut. could not catch the winner. Old Surrey hung on for third. ECSTATIC WINS ALL THE WAY. Giving her Awapuni stable its third success on end, aiid tho Huntcrville sportsman, Air T. A. Duncan, his seventh at the meeting, Ecstatic, assisted by a 711>. allowance and smart handling by her apprentice rider, led all the way in the Telegraph Handicap. Russian Ballet, who attended the pacemaker into the straight, filled second place, the hot favourite, Dnncannon, being unable to make much impression in the, run home after being slow out of the harrier. DYNASTY’S BIG SURPRISE. Paying over a score Dynasty sprang a big surprise to beat the favourite. Hunting Lore, in a good finish to the liangitikei Hack Cup. Dynasty, who opened his account at Woodville, showed that he is a potential stayer. Half a mile from home he was in seventh position, and he steadily improved until he wore down Hunting Lore, who had an excellent run on the rails. Dynasty • won going away. Qolibri finished well for third, followed by Caution, Segra, and Israel. GOLD CHASE AGAIN.

Gold Chase, the favourite, had his second successive win when lie led all the way to win the Farewell Hack Handicap. This gelding is smart, and should soon run out of hack class.

Gold Chase led into the straight from Filetto and The Smiler. with Do Bretts making a fast run on the outside. Gold Chase drew out in the straight to win easily from Filetto. who just managed to stall off a fast finishing run by Pretty Lass.
