DESTRUCTIVE FIRE.
OUTBREAK IN ROME. ROME, Jan. 1 ; Fire broke out shortly before midnight in the Apostolic Chancellery and famous adjacent. Church of ban Lorenzo. The fire brigade, hampered by the bitterly cold weather, did not succeed in quelling the blaze till 5 a.m. The Cupola of the Chancellery crashed and most of one wing of the church was destroyed. Priceless tapestries and some frescoes in the Chancellery are reported to have been completely ruined. but a number of art treasures were saved. '
