FAMILY ALLOWANCES.

EXPENDITURE IN BRITAIN,

Received November 16, 8.5 a.m. 'LONDON, Nov. 15

The War Minister (Mr L. HoreBelisha) to-day announced that tho increased allowance for soldiers’ wives and families became effective on November 13. He added that the £2 a week, where the rent was out of relation to the existing allowance, would he increased, also the allotment for children after the first child by a shilling for the second and third, and two shillings for each subsequent child. The lowest scale for a household of eight children would he £2 11s a week excluding rent. . Consequently the expenditure would he £12,000,000, which he expected would be doubled in due course, in addition to tho present amount of £25,000,000.

The Assam Congress Ministry has resigned, states a Bombay message. All eight Congress Ministries are now out of office.
