PERSONAL.

Dr. lan Fraser, of Levin, accepted a call from the Wvndham Church. Southland, at a meeting of the Wellington Presbytery yesterday. Mr A. W. Green, of Hamilton, secretary of the New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Breeders’ Association, is a visitor to Palmerston North for the Show.

Major A. H. Carrington, formerly of the New Zealand Staff Corps, has been appointed brigade major of the 182nd (Birmingham) Infantry Brigade of the 61st Division.

Advice has been received by the local branch of the National Party that the leader of the party, Hon. Adam Hamilton, will be in Palmerston North next Tuesday to talk over party affairs with members.

Mr Leonard Penney, son of Mr and Mrs J. Penney, of Tangimoana, who was admitted to the Wellington Hospital from Trontham Camp with pneumonia, is still seriously ill, but his friends will be pleased to learn that his condition shows a slight improvement.

Messrs G. B. Anderson, C. .1. Masters, R. Sharpe and A. MoNab, members of the committee of the AA’anganui A. ‘and PI Association, and Mr A. R. Donaldson, the secretary, were visitors to the Manawatu and AA’est Coast A. and P. Association’s Centennial Spring Show to-day. Mr R. B. M. Atoung, of the staff of the Bank of New South Wales at Palmerston North, has received notice of his transfer to Pa tea and will take up his duties immediately. Mr Young commenced his banking career at Palmerston North. The manager of the branch. Mr A. J. M. Goodwin, on behalf of the staff, made- a suitable presentation to Mr Young and expressed regret at losing his services, but congratulated him on his promotion. Squadron-Leader Lennox Lamb, the son of Mr and Mrs W. G. Lamb, of Masterton, whose death lias been reported from Home, was in charge of the raiding party in the recent attack on the German warships in the Kiel Canal. Born in Masterton, SquadronLeader Lamb was educated at the Wairarapa High School and was the first King’s Scout in the AVairnrapa. For three years he was lightweight champion boxer of the three British services at Home. He took up duties in the Air Force in England some years ago and later was transferred to Iraq, where he was stationed for two years. In 1937 he was appointed an instructor. Messrs J. J. Coffey, senior postal sorter, and C. H. V. Dennan, postman, were made the recipients of presentations at the Chief Post Office, yesterday, to mark their retirement from the service. The Chief Postmaster (Mr A. N. AVallnce) said Air Coffey was retiring after rendering valuable service and Mr Dennan was leaving to take up another occupation in ' the prime of life. Mr Coffey was presented with a silver tea service and Mr Dennan with an oak tea wagon. Including his terms with the Railway Department, the Public AVorks Department and the Post and Telegraph Department. and in the South African war, Mr Coffey has 42 years’ service to his credit, and Mr Dennan has been a postman for 20 years. Mr W. J. Foster, a postal sorter, who retired a month ago after a service lasting from 1908, was presented with a chiming clock, suitably engraved. In his reply Mr Coffey stated that the public would miss him more than the department would, because in 26 years he had handled and corrected thousands of incorrectly addressed letters.
