CURRENCY DISPUTE.
BRITISH ATTITUDE FIRM. TOKIO, July 29. A sub-committee of two Britons and two Japanese has been formed to consider the currency and silver question in the Tientsin dispute in order to facilitate the general negotiations. Japan is demanding the forfeiture of Chinese silver bullion valued at more than £1,000,000 held by Tientsin banks, and also tho exclusion of Chinese currency. The British Ambassador (Sir Robert Craigie) is reported to be firm in his attitude to both demands, which is the first indication of British stiffening.
