THE WEATHER

MAINLY FAIR, BUT COLD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 31. Pressure is low to the north-east of the North Island, but an anti-cyclone now covers the fax south. The forecast is for moderate to strong south-easterly winds, with gales at times in Cook Strait, but mainly fair west of the ranges though still changeable, with occasional showers or hail, in eastern districts. Further snow is probable on high country. Temperatures will be cold and there will ho some frosts. Seas will be very rough. RIVER GAUGE. Noon. —4ft.
