PUBLIC WELL CATERED FOR. At Friday's meeting of' the, Fcilding Jockey'Club, Mr A. J. Lugg, one of the candidates for the committee, stressed tho need for the provision of additional stand accommodation, and in support of his contention of tho inadequacy of the existing facilities quoted figures which showed the amount of space provided at present and made suggestions to tho new committee for consideration. He urged also that the gato at the entrance to "Car

Street” bo replaced by a moro up-to-dato structure. The generous support of patrons enjoyed by the club merited tho provision of further facilities. Thero were 80 racecourses in New Zealand, and 152 meetings extending over 240 days per annum, and involving 1746 events. Tho total stake money amounted to £380,381 while thejtotalisator turnover amounted to £5,545.771 per annum. New Zealand was well catered for as far as racing was concerned, and as tho pastime was so popular patrons should be considered and given the facilities which their support merited.
