IRREGULAR MARKETS.

WELLINGTON SHARE

TRANSACTIONS. Business in tlie Now Zealand stock and share market last week was dull, and somewhat irregular. Trading was fairly good in the early part of the weeit, but it languished later and closed quietly. There were no special features in the market, prices moving within narrow limits. The recorded turnover was about the same volume as in recent weeks. There was a fairly good demand for Government stocks, trading covering most of the listed issues. This section of the market was generally steady, prices showing little variation on late rates. Local body debentures were quiet, and business was restricted. Some activity was shown in Bank of New Zealand shares, which advanced strongly from 39s 9d to 41s 3d, but weakened in the latter part of the week to 40s 3d. National of New Zealand were traded more freely than in recent weeks, and improved from 44s 9d to 44s fid. Commercial of Australia were inactive, and ranged from 16s 7d to 16s 9d. Other bank shares were dull and unchanged. Insurance shares were quiet, and little changed, South British selling at 43s 9d to 445, New Zealand at 52s 9d to 535, and National at 16s lOd. N.Z. Guarantee Corporation improved 2d to 4s 2d. New Zealand industrial shares were generally quiet, prices showing little movement. N.Z. Refrigerating, 10s paid, sold at 8s 3d to 8s 4d, and Southland Meat at 27s Od. N.Z. Drugs were firm at 695, Dominion Fertilisers were unchanged at 245, and N.Z. Farmers’ Fertiliser made 18s. Wilsons Cement sold at 17s 5d to 17s 3d, and Consolidated Brick at 8s 6d to 8s 7d. N.Z. Breweries improved to 37s 9d, and Dominion Breweries to 33s 3d. Wellington "Woollen, ordinary, sold at £5. A.O. Industries advanced Is to 39s 6d, and buyers were in on Saturday at 40s 9rl. British Tobacco sold at 52s to 52s 3d. Broken Hill Proprietary showed little change. Colonial Sugar eased from £SO 10s to £49 10s. Other leading Australian issues were quiet, G. J. Coles were firm at 80s to 80s 3d. Woolworths, Ltd., sold at 23s lid to 24s Id, and "Woolworths (N.Z.) improved .to 18s 2d. McKenzies Stores were done at 425. A small volume of business was done in mining shares.
