WORCESTER BEATS YORKSHIRE
COMPTON’S DOUBLE CENTURY

In the county cricket matches completed to-day, the highest score was that of Compton (214 not out) for Middlesex against Derby. Middlesex bowlers also fared well, Simms taking eight wickets for 32 runs in Derby’s first innings. The biggest surprise was, however, Yorkshire’s collapse against Worcester, the latter winning by 16 runs. The best howling averages were obtained bv Stephenson, Taylor and Nichols (Essex) against Somerset, the foVmer taking five wickets for lour runs in Somerset’s first, innings, Taylor five for 23 and Nichols four for 33 in the second innings.

Derby.—First innings 110 (Sims 8 for 32); second, 313 (Smith 96. Worthington 79 not out). Middlesex.—First innings, 7 for 447 declared (Compton 214 not out). Middlesex won by an innings and 24 runs.
LEICESTER v. GLAMORGAN. Leicester. —First innings 21G (Berry 76; Mercer, 7 for 67). Glamorgan.—First innings 2 for 120. Rain caused tho abandonment of play, and the match was drawn.
GLOUCESTER v. HAMPSHIRE. Gloucester. —First innings, 212 (Creese. 5 for 50); second, 7 for 160 declared. _ , Hampshire.—First innings. 16* (Goddard 7 for 77); second, 162 (Goddard 5 for 65). Gloucester won by 43 runs.
NORTHANTS v. LANCASHIRE. Northants First innings. 368 (Timms 83, Nelson 7G not out; Phillipson. 5 lor 68). . . Lancashire.—First innings, 9 tor 198 (Partridge 7 for 49). Rain caused play to he abandoned and the match was drawn.
ESSEX v. SOMERSET. Essex. —First innings, 72 (Wellard 5 for 35. Andrews 4 for 34); second, 174 (Wellard 7 for 68). Somerset.—First innings, ol (btepnenson 5 for 4); second. 72 (Taylor o for 23, Nichols 4 for 33). Essex won by 123 runs. SUSSEX v. WARWICK.

WIN EOR WEST INDIES.
MATCH WITH SURREY
Received July 29, 10.30 a.m. LONDON. July 28. Surrey’s first innings against the West Indies closed to day lor 2i4 runs (Parker 100: Clarke, five for 04). Surrey followed on and made 2(>4 (Squires 58: Clarke. 4 for 80). West Indies previously made 4b/ in their first innings and in their second made 49 runs for three. Vest Indies won by seven wickets.
