His ■ Grace Archbishop Averill is to visit All Saints’ Church on August 13, when he will be the preacher at the evening service. The friends of Mr J. Coghill, of Palmerston North, will be glad to learn be is making a good recovery alter his recent operation. Air W r . H. Brown leaves on Monday for a three weeks’ Island cruise which will touch the Tongan, Samoan and Fijian groups. He will bo accompanied by Mrs Brown.

Mr L. G. 11. Sinclair, senior vicepresident, has assumed the office of president of the Palmerston North Citizens’ Lunch Club in succession to the late Mr J. 13. Fleck.

His Honour Air Justice Blair, who has presided at the Supreme Court sittings in Palmerston North, left for Wellington yesterday on the completion of the business at this centre. His Honour will next preside at sittings in Hamilton.

Air H. J. Fagan has been declared elected to the position of councillor for the Sanson riding of the Alannwatu County Council. Air Fagan was nominated, with Messrs AV. H. Henson and K. L. Vile, for the vacancy following tho passing of the late Cr J. H. Perrott, but Alessrs Henson and Vile have retired.

Air R. L. Aleck, LL.AL, of Victoria University College, Wellington, has been awarded the Sirathcona Research Studentship of St. John’s College, Cambridge, and Air H. B. Hawthorn, 8.A., AI.Sc., formerly of Victoria University College, has been awarded a Carnegie Fellowship at Yale University.

Congratulations were extended to Air and Airs J. Living-tone by the president of the Southern Hawke’s Bay executive of the Farmers’ Union (Air J. C. Bolton) at a meeting this week, on their election to life membership in the union and the Women’s' Division respectively. Air Bolton remarked that such a partnership must be unique. Air Livingstone said he was deeply responsible of the honour. The death occurred in a private hospitlal recently of Air William John Seatcr, of Wellington. Born at Kumara, AH Seatcr first entered business in Palmerston North, but about 25 years ago he went to Wellington and commenced business there. He leaves a widow and two daughters, and two sisters, Airs H. At. Broadbclt, of Ota Id, and Aliss B. E. Seatcr, of Auckland.

In recognition of their services, Messrs It. J. Harper and W. G. Fry were elected life members of the Fcilding Jockey Club, last evening. Mr Harper joined the club in 1908; he was appointed steward in 1913 and became a member of the committee in 1918. He became president in 1937. Mr Fry became a member in 1914, was appointed a steward in 1917 and joined the committee in 1918. Mr Fry was made vice-president in 1934 and 1938 and became president in 1935. During Mr Fry’s regime as president the course and training area were replanned and extensive draining alterations carried out. He was responsible for much of the improvement to the club’s property. Cabled advice has been received that Rev. Father Reginald Delargey, of the Auckland Diocese, has obtained the degree of Doctor of Theology at the Pontifical College of Propaganda, Rome. He is a son of Mr A. Delargey, manager of the Bank of New Zealand at Putaruru. Educated at the Sacred Heart College, Auckland, Dr. Delargey studied philosophy at Holy Cross College, Mosgicl, and five years ago he went to Romo to continue his theological studies. He was ordained priest early last year. He will spend the next three months studying methods of Catholic Action in Northern Italy, Belgium, England and Ireland, and he is duo back in Auckland early in December.
