SUPPLIERS’ TRIBUTE

LEVIN COMPANY CHAIRMAN, FORTY YEARS’ SERVICE. Forty years of active association with tlie Levin Co-operative Dairy Company as a director (.since 1899), including 28 years of service during that period as chairman, wore marked in a happy function organised by tlie shareholders at tlie conclusion of the business at (lie annual mooting tin's week, to do honour to Air S. A. Broadhelt, who, with Airs Broadhelt, was presented with a silver tea and coffee service and a cheque.

The principal speaker was Ah- A. J. Gimblctt, wlio traced tlie growth of the company from its formation in 1899, when the initial output was 52 h tons annually, to the present production of 169 S tons annually. He paid a tribute to the part played by Air Broadhelt in the development of the company and to tlie active interest lie had taken in tlie industry generally. The position the company occupied in New Zealand was largely tlie result of tlie work of Air Broadhelt, lie said. Air Gimblctt enumerated the many organisations which had received Air Brondbclt’s assistance, and added that such service would not have been possible without the support given by Airs Broadhelt.

Throughout (he years the company had paid a return to its shareholders equal to any other and bettered by none, said Air Gimblctt, and tlie reserves, which had been built up were largely responsible for its present strong position. The consistent cooperation of the chairman and staff had played a large part in the success of its operations. If shareholders knew the time Air Broadhelt had given to the company’s a flairs and (he sacrifices he had made, they would realise what a fine worker it had in him. Educational matters had also claimed Air Broadbelt’s interest, continued Air Gimblctt, and when Koputa.roa was known as Korcrii he was a member of the school committee and still held that position to-day. He had been first secretary of the Levin branch of the Farmers' Union; ail initial member of the Tlorowheiiiia A. and P. Association, president lor a number of years, and a lile member to-day; at one time a member of tlie Iforowlieima County Council and Palmerston North Hospital Board; a member of the Horowhenna County Patriotic Society; first chairman of_ the Dominion Producers’ Agency, which had been formed for the purpose of fixing the price of butter on tlie local market; a delegate to tlie ward conference oi tlio Dairy Board: chairman of the Manawatii and Vest Coast Dairy Companies’ Association; and a director of tlie. Dairy Producer's’ Freezing Company in 'Wellington. AI r T. G. Vincent spoke of Air Broadholt’s association with tlieDominion Producers’ Agency, and Air F. AT. Young spoke on behalf ol tlie Linton suppliers of the company. Air \Y. E. Barber spoke on behalf of tlie Shannon Dnirv Company, and Mr At. K. Allies on behalf of tlie ' Kuku-Alanakau Dairy Company. On behalf of tlio staff and a former director, Mr K. Rolston, jinn-., the secretary, Air J. Af. Parsons, presented Air and Airs Broadhelt with a travelling rug and trunk. Air Broadhelt said his association with tlie' industry had been a pleasurable one and lie would continue to serve the industry in the future, lie expressed thanks for the gilts which he and Airs Broadhelt had received. The company, said Air Broadhelt, had only 17 suppliers in tlie first year of its operations, and. Air J. Aim, now manager of the Shannon company, who was also present, was Levin’s first manager. A large amount of credit lor tiic company’s success was due to the men with whom he had worked on the directorate over tlie years.

Airs Broadhelt was presented by little Shirley Hewitt with a bouquet made by Airs T. G. Vincent.
