INCREASE IN NET AMOUNT. APRIL TO JUNIC. WELLINGTON, July 28. An increase in net .revenue or £131,462 over the same period last year is shown in the latest railway working return, which covers the period ironi April 1 tto June 24, 1939. 11l reviewing the preliminary figures for the four-weekly period ended June 24, the Minister of Railways (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) said yesterday: “The gross revenue lor the period amounted to £712,497, compared with £631 234 for the corresponding period of last year, an increase of £81,263. The working expenses increased by £20,058, trom £657,943 to £678.001, leaving an improvement in the net revenue position for the lour weeks of £61.205. “For the year to date,” said the Minister, “that is, from April 1 to June 24, the gross revenue shows an increase of £l9O 336. the difference between £2.107 480 in 1938, and £2.297,816 in 1939. though there is one dav less in the accounting period tor 1939. “The working expenses for the year to date over the same period increased bv £SB 874, from £1.982.094 to £2.040 968. leaving an increase in net reyen up of 402, "which rose froni £125 386 in-1938 to £256 848 in 1939. “The improved revenue position is being fullv maintained, during the three weeks of the Julf period which in tlie ch. pertinent's experience, is the slackest revenue month of the year, concluded 51 r Sullivan.
