WOMEN’S CLUB.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS. The Mannwntii Women’s Club celebrated its loth, birthday yesterday afternoon when the monthly meeting was held in Messrs Collinson and Cunningltame’s tearooms. Yellow jonquils lent ia spring-like air to the tables and a largo poster, bearing the words “Our loth Birthday,” was placed over the platform. Airs A. E. Mansford presided and the hostesses were Mesdames R. C. Donald, L. H. Collinson and Miss M. Cranston. There was a large atLendaueo of mem lie rs tand friends.

The president extended- a special welcome to Airs S. Carter, of Wellington. mother of Aliss Una Carter, both of whom arc at present in Palmerston North, and to Airs It. AY. Priest, who was attending for the first time since her recent illness.

Mrs M. Aitehison read a letter of acknowledgement from the medical superintendent of the Porirua Mental Hospital for the hamper sent by the members after their annual bridge afternoon. It had been greatly appreciated by the inmates. Airs Aitehison informed members that they could enclose parcels for individual patients in the hamper., An interesting programme was given hv Mesdames Fell. T. Simpson and Miss G. Laurenson (songs). Airs I>. B. Rowe (’cello solos). Misses AT. Cranston and AI. Alillar (recitations), Jnlanne Peren and Mavis Hartley (pianoforte duets). The accompanistos were Alesdames It. C. Donald and H. Piorard. Airs Alansford wished the club many happy returns of the day and welcomed Airs J. 11. Stevens, the club’s only life member, who’ was called on to cut the Iwautifnl pink and white birthdav cake which she had donated and which had been made by Airs Stevens, junr. 51rs Stevens was presented with la.ll attractive bouquet. Thanks were conveyed ,to the performers by the secretary (Airs X. V. Ballinger).
