LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.

HON. AI. FAGAN SPEAKER. HON. D. WILSON LEADER. In the Legislative Council Hon. B. Martin took the Speaker’s chair and conducted formal business. Hon. Y r . A. AVnrd gave notice of his intention to move that the Government be recoin mended to set up a Parliamentary Committee to investigate tho sale of patent, secret and proprietary medicines, preparations and appliances and their advertisement, and recommended amendments to the law if necessary. A call of the Council was taken and absent members excused from attendance, and the Council went into camera to elect a Speaker. Hon. Mark Fagan, who has been Leader since the Labour Government came into office, was chosen by unani-

mous vote. He thanked members for his election and promised to safeguard all the privileges and rights. Every member of the Council congratulated All". Fagan on his election, and all spoke of his high qualities as Leader and Lis great popularity with members, irrcsnectivc of political outlook. Attention to the fact that Air.
