WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.

MEETING AT HALCOMBE. 'flic July meeting of the llalcombo AA’oinen’s Institute commenced with tbo thought for the month, “Don't dodge difficulties; meet them, greet them, beat them,” read by the president (Alin AV. Davies). Members stood in silence out of respect for those who had suffered bereavements. A special welcome was given to the demonstrator, Mrs Drew, and a new member, Mrs Alortimer. Apologies for almence were received from AJcsdantos O'Sullivan, Brett, Schacrin, and R. Anderson. Sunshine members for the month are AlcsdameH Curtis and Ashworth. Hostesses at tbo next mooting will be Alcndamos R. Fot’gusson and Stone, and Mieses Elsie J'ergiieson and Al. Mason. Invitations to attend their birthdays were received from Dulls and Cheltenham. Alembers were reminded of the group meeting lo be held at Marlon, which Airs AA’. Davies and Aliss D. Field will attend. The competitions will be: Eggless fruit cake (Institute cookery book), knitted tea cosy, and now garment from old, all entries other than cookery to bo banded to Airs AA'. Davies before August 4. Articles made by members for the Centennial Exhibition aro to be banded in at tbo group meeting. Bring and buy stalls will be hold at both tho group meeting and the August meeting, and the proceeds will go to the federation funds. A demonstration on brass work was given by Alt’S Drew, of Sanson. AAith tho aid of institutes it is hoped lo bang a portrait of Miss Spencer in tho National Art Gallery. Airs Drew asked members lo be prepared to help destitute people in time of emergency, arid this will be fully discussed at next meeting. Afternoon tea was served by Alosdamen J. E. Fergusson and Curtis, and ■ Alisscs Edna and Olive Fergusson. The competitions resulted: New garment front old, Aliss Elsio' Fergusson and Airs 1,. Davies, equal, 1. Eggless fruit cake, Airs f,. Davies 1, Airs J. E. Fergusson 2, Aliss Edna Fergusson 3. Next month's competitions will bo: Jam tnrls with puff pastry, crochet cushion (woo! or sill,), also identification from old photographs of members.
