NATIONAL COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. Mrs J. Harris (Turakinn) presided j over the monthly meeting of the Mana- ' watu branch of the National Council of I Women, held on Monday, having been appointed to the chair during the ab- j sencc overseas of the president, Mrs H. Paterson (Pahiatua). Others present Here Mesdamcs A. McCorkindale, M. I). Colquhoun, S. Lodge, S. MeDowall (Feilding). \V. U. .Short (Feilding), Miss C. McKcnny (Pahiatua), -Mesdamcs A. Boniface, Vriden Jones, Misses M. .Tones, M. Matheson, C. Jamieson and Grant (I'alnierston North). There were apologies for absence from Mesdamcs A. E. Mansford and W. F. Field. While accepting the office of chairman, Mrs Harris expressed regret for the necessity, ami also said she felt she was voicing the wishes of all the members in the hope that Mrs Paterson would find her sou's health improved on her arrival in England and that .she herself would benefit by the voyage. A letter from Mrs Paterson asked for leave of absence and explained the reason for her hurried departure. Some useful advice was given to the branch with regard to study groups by Mr H. C. Somerset, of the Community Centre, Feilding, but in view of the stress of business for this and the August meeting it was agreed to bold this decision over for a further meeting. Concerning a circular from the Refugees Emergency Committee, it was resolved to ascertain the opinion and action of headquarters on the matter for guidance. Remits for the 1930 conference to he held in Christchurch in September were considered.
