CRIME INVESTIGATION.
STUDY IN AUSTRALIA. COMMISSIONER’S TISIT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July IS. The Commissioner of Police (Mr D. J. Cummings) will leave for Australia at tiie end of this week to attend a conference of commissioners of police of the Australian States, which is to open in Brisbane on July 31. In making this announcement to-night, the Minister in Charge of the Police Department (Hon. P. Eraser) said that various matters affecting police administration would bo discussed. Similar conferences had been held previously in Australia, the last in Melbourne two years ago, hut this would bo the first occasion on which New Zealand had been represented.
“While in Australia,’’ the Minister said, “Mr Cummings will take the opportunity of visiting Melbourne and Sydney, as well as Brisbane, and will study police methods in those cities in respect of the prevention, investigation, and detection of crime, as well as the organisation and working of the detective and uniform branches of the police forces. Another matter in which the Commissioner will lie interested is the organisation and duties of women police in the Australian States, in view of the fact that the appointment of women police in New Zealand is now under consideration.’’ Mr Fraser said that the radio equipment of police patrol cars would also he closely investigated by the Commissioner.
