The opening of play was fairly even, but in the goal raids Alanawatu were the more dangerous. In one oi these Allen, collecting a pass from A. Young, cut through to beat Cuthbcrt with a low drive. The Manawatu forwards maintained their attack, but Cuthbcrt went flown to smother the ball to avert the danger. After the Manawatu backs Iliad broken up a Wellington forward movement, G'utlibert. at the other end. twice saved in clever style to prevent Allen ironi increasing the score. Manawatu were not to he deprived, however, and Glaister scored with a snap drive, Liddicoat and Bradford were most prominent, of the fnterhouse forwards at this stage, but they met with a resolute defence. R. Young, and A. Young on the right- wing proved difficult to check and Cuthbcrt was called on to save two strong drives 1 rom the right.

On the resumption of plav AYellington went through to equalise, Liddicoat finishing off a good movement set in motion by Cullen. AA'ellingfon continued the aggressors and Liddicoat was keeping the Manawatu defence busy with speedy breakaways. A Manawatu raid saw Cuthbcrt again extricate his side when Allen and Hureomb seemed likely to score. AA'ellington went through and Tanner missed a. c-hance to put AA’ellington ahead when, with Lyon out of goal, he lifted the ball over the top. The visitors took advantage of this let-off to go through and score —Cullen failed to clear first time and A. Youns secured and went through to beat Cuthbert with a strong drive. In the closing minutes of the game Manawatu were doing most of the attacking, but Cuthbert kept them from adding to their score with some splendid saves.
