DEALS IN SHARES.
RESTRICTED TURNOVER
Business in the stock and share markets last week was very restricted, the recorded turnover being of small volume. The markets were (.lull and sluggish, the only bright feature being a definite firming in Australian industrial issues, a number of which made substantial gains. Jit this respect the New Zealand market reacted to the improvement in Sydney and Melbourne.
Government loans were inactive, and trading was moderate, prices generaly being barely steady. There was little doing in local body debentures.
Bank shares were very quiet, but prices were inclined tG linn a shade. Commercial of Australia moved up from Ids Jd to Ids lid, and New Zetland from 88s 8d to 38s 9d. Australia recovered to £9 ss, New South AN tiles to £3O Ids, and E.S. and A. to X's National of New Zealand strengthened from 44s 9d to 45s 3d. Goldsbrough Mort firmed to 38s 4.}d. Insurance shares were quiet, National at Ids 7d and New Zealand at 51s showing no change. South British recovered from 41s 3d to 435. . There was little doing in New .Zealand industrial shares. Dominion Breweries cased to 335, and New Zealand Breweries were done at 375. N.Z. Drug sold to dSs (id, and N.Z. Farmers’ Fertiliser at 17s 9d to 18s. Broken Hill Proprietary moved tip (Tom d7s dd to 70s, hut eased later to d9s, Australian Consolidated Industries improved from 37s 6d to 38s dd. Colonial Sugar advanced to £SO, and Dunlop-Perdriaii were traded at 21s da to 225, casing to 21s Bd. British Tobacco finned to 52s dd, and f'eit and Textiles to 325. The announcement ol till unchanged rate ol dividend and some improvement in the price ol metals caused Electrolytic Zinc to advance. The ordinaries firmed from 52s to 54s'. and the preference sold to 58s 3d. Mount Lyell were done at 27s dd, and North Broken Hill at 495. Woolworths, Ltd., were fairly steadv, business being done at up to ‘>4s 3d. AVoolworths (N.Z.) improved from Ids 9d to 17s, and 38s was paid for the preference issue. G. J- Coles were quiet a few sales being made at up to 79s 9d. Taranaki Oil Field were dull and unchanged at 6s dd.
