RURAL BAKINGS. LAMBING IN KING COUNTRY. Block in asters with early lambing ewes are having a busy time attending to lambs, and the cold weather is causing considerable mortality. Apart from this early setback, the general prospects for good'lambing returns are excellent. Planting of Maize. The area to be planted in maize in the Gisborne district during the coming season is expected to be increased by about 500 acres as a result of the improved marketing arrangements promised by the Internal Marketing Department. If expectations are realised next season’s crop should yield about 10.000 sacks more than that which is at present being harvested. Exports of pigs, fresh port and pork products from Poland during 1038 were valued at about £6,600,000, an increase of 4 per cent, compared with 1937. Owing to increased exports of pigs to Germany and smaller exports of canned ham, the percentage of finished foodstuffs exported was lower than in former years.
