MANAWATU’S PART.
- - AT CENTENNIAL EXHIBITION. Good progress is being made with the model oi New Zealand at the Centennial Exhibition, according to Mr P. Black (Palmerston North city curator), who paid a visit to the scone, yesterday. It. had been the intention to make models of all the principal towns and scenic attractions in the Dominion, but now there is a suggestion, which will require to be sanctioned by the zone committees before it can be proceeded with, that what is known as the transparency method be used in the case of the towns. This, in Palmerston North, would embody an aerial photograph of the city taken from a point looking down Rangitikei Street towards Fitzherbert bridge. This photograph would then be superimposed above suitable lighting, and. to all intents and purposes, would he a. lifelike replica of tlie city’s huff ness area, including the Square. This outline was given by Dir Black. Tlie Dlanawatu’s part in the model of New Zealand will necessarily he limited, and will occupy a section 12ft. by 6ft. This miniature will extend from a little beyond the Fitzherbert bridge and half-wav to Longburn. and along Rangitikei Street, from whatever spot the photograph is taken, on the other side.
Two models will bo included in the area, these being the Fitzherbert bridge, which will he reproduced to scale, and Massey College. Tn all, the Palmerston North miniature area, which will he surrounded by paths so that the public can view it, will only bo a small one. The main features of the general disnlay, of course, comprise DR. Egmont, Wnitomo Caves, Dtt. Cook, Rotorua and other tourist resorts.
