Messrs J. R. Hughes (city engineer) and P. Black (city curator) visited Wellington yesterday, being engaged on City Council business. Tributes to the work of Chief Judge Jones, of the Native Land Court, during his service with the department were paid when Mr Jones was made a farewell presentation yesterday in Wellington. All- Rupert- Harvey, examiner in speech training for the Trinity College of Music, London, who lias been in Palmerston North for several days conducting examinations, left jester day for the South Island. Mr F. W. Ward, formerly of Palmerston North, has been visiting the city on his way back to Auckland from Wellington, where he attended the National Party conference as a delegate from Auckland West. The friends of Air G. H. Stiles, ot Argvle Avenue, will be pleased to learn that he is now convalescing very satisfactorily from the illness which has kept Him at home lor the past month. He is now able to get about a little.

Mr A. Iv. Overton, a prominent settler at Taihape, recently underwent a serious operation in a Palmerston North private hospital. The general committee of the Rangitikei A. and P. Association expressed its sympathy with Air Overton in his illness. Mr F. C. W. Anderson, who has been secretary of Court- Heret-amiga, Ancient Order; of Foresters, and a. member of the Hawke’s Bay district executive of the order, is leaving Hastings to take up a position in Palmerston North. He was farewelled by the lodge and presented with a travelling rug. The Methodist Times announces that it is understood Rev. A. Blnkemore, Minister of the Cuba Street Methodist Church, lias accepted an invitation to the Kaiapoi circuit, and will take up the appointment in April next. Similarly. it is understood that Rev. If. L. Fiebig, of Christchurch, has accepted an invitation to the Cuba Street circuit.

Cr G. A. Monk was appointed by the monthly meeting of the Horowhenua County Council, yesterday, to represent the council at the annual mooting of the County Councils’ Industrial Union of Employers in Wellington on July 28. Cr Monk paid a tribale to the"work of Colonel .T. Pow (secretary of the New Zealand Counties’ Association) and Mr W. Marshall (president of the Union). He said that the union had been of immense value to the county councils. It had sot out to be quite fair in the matter of employment.

The degree of Doctor of Education to the National University in Dublin has been awarded to Rev. Father Francis Terry, inspector of religious teachings in the Catholic Diocese of Auckland. Dr. Terry has boon studying for the past three years at the university. under one of the foremost authorities on .-education in Europe. Rev. Dr. Corcoran. S.J. Tn that time he has taken the ALA. degree anil secured fhe diploma of higher education and the Doctorate of Education. Dr. Tcrrv will return to New Zealand in December to resume liis work in the schools.

Air E. J. Worry, formerly a member of the staff of the Palmerston North Boys’ High School, who has accepted a. p Lion on the staff of the Corres-j pond nee School, 'Wellington, leaves' at the week-end with Airs Werrv to take up residence in the Capital City. At the morning assembly at the Boys’’ High School, yesterday, the opportunity was taken to tender a farewell to Air Worry. The rector (Air J. Murray) expressed the school’s appreciation of Air Worry’s services during Ids stay of 15 years as a member of the stuff. The Albion Club presented Mr AVcrry with a solid leather attache ease, tile third X\ r with a fountain pen, and his form. Form IVb, with a key ease. Air AYerry expressed his thanks for the tokens of goodwill, and on the call of the head prefect (A. Campbell) hearty cheers were accorded him.
