FALSE PRETENCES CHARGE. Probation for a period of two years and suppression of the name was ordered when a youth appeared before Mr H. V. Lawrv, S.M.. in the Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, on a charge that, with intent to defraud, hr_ obtained from William Henry Skinner two suits, of a total value ol ,C 9 7s (id. hy falsely representing, under another name, that lie was employed in the exchange of the .P. and T. Department at Palmerston North. Detective-Sergeant Meiklejohn slated that accused had admitted giving a false name, address, and place of occupation' in the hone that lie would not bo located, lie bad obtained two suits for selection and was to have returned next dav for one, hut did not do so. Constable Ross and an assistant from the shop where the suits wore obtained set out on a Friday n ight and accused was identified on the street, lie admitted obtaining the suits, but onlv after half an hour of questioning did ho give his correct name and address. He had said he u\*intcrl »i now suit for o cclclin.Gj ho was to attend. Accused had since returned one suit and paid for the othei. Accused asked for the suppression of his name, stating that otherwise ho would lose his job. Tie was admitted to probation and his name suppressed, as stated.
