JUDGE'S COMMENTS.
AWARDS MADE. “'['ho standard of work, generally, is very good,” said Air R. T. Andrew, of Wellington, in commenting on .the photography, which lie judged. “1 think, however, that the pictures would appear much better if they were exhibited in a diffused light, and not reached by the daylight. Jl a lew electric lights wero arranged well above the pictures so that the light came through frosted glass it would give a much better finisi) to the qualities of the prints. Photographs should he seen, really, in full daylight and nothing else, because that is what the artist uses; but within a building that is not always available. The usual work of All-Vi. Chance—superb work—naturally takes a special place and the technique of Air Chnpman-Taylor (Silverstrcam) is also to be greatly admired. Air C. A. AVeedon (Dunedin), also entered some beautiful work. There are quite a number of new names among tho exhibitors, and one of these, Air J. R. Wall (Stratford), has a delightful study of animal life showing two dogs” Tn the colour photography Aliss N. Zoinert (Palmerston North), had used svmpathctic tinting, the judge continued, and Air R. J. Searle (Wanganui) had shown good technique in producing a very natural picture. The portrait section was not up to the usual standard, and too many of the entries showed evidence of “studio influence. Special mention was made, also, of the work of Air C. E. Singleton (Wellington). THE PRIZEWINNERS. Open class.—Any landscape: G. Chance 1 and v.h.e., Aliss T. KKent (Christchurch) 2, C. A. AA codon (Dunedin) J, J l '. L.
