Mesdames H. S. Hume and D. KenYon were the prizewinners at a card afternoon held by ilie Croquet Club. There is now a prospect of the condition of the main street being improved as the Public Works Depart-
ment, it is stated, has agreed to a request tor the immediate metalling of the thoroughfare. Rev. Father AYallarc. of the Redemptions t Order, is at present conducting a mission at St. Columbkillc's Church, AA’oodville. YA oodvilie is acknowledged as being a very sober community. The first offending inebriate for a year was apprehended during the week-end, and dealt with by Air H. Galbraith, J.R. Acsterdav was a very wintry day. This morning snow was lying on tho hills, AA linriti. the district’s wellknown landmark, having a good coating. and the hills at the back of T\nmeroa were also white. Owing to the stormy conditions, a social function arranged by the women’s institute did not eventuate. AA hi Ist engaged in braking a shunted wagon, which unknown to him was approaching a rake of trucks, Air R. Harris, an employee at the local rnilwny yards, sustained injuries to his knee. The incident occurred during evening operations. At a shout of warning. Air Harris jumped clear just before the impact. Another drive of cull cows is to be made this week, in Southern Hawke’s Bay. From Norsewood to AYoodville they will he rounded up, and then destined for the freezing works. As the outcome of a discussion which ensued at a meeting some weeks age of the local Farmers’ Union, the drive is being made in conjunction with the Southern Hawke’s Bay Herd Testing Association. Dairy companies are lending their co-operation, and therefore the latest drive has been systematically organised.
