MILK SHORTAGE.
SEVEN TOWNS AFFECTED. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, June 8. ‘‘Wo are threatened with a milk shortage in seven North Island towns,” said the Director of Internal Alarketing (Mr F. R. Picot) to-day. “This situation has boon developing for some time,” he said, “but. we are not in a position to avert it. It is the first time in New Zealand that such a situation has arisen. For several reasons many more cows than usual have gone out of production this winter.” Wellington, said AH Picot, was one of the places that would not- ho able to obtain the supplies it needed. POSITION IN WELLINGTON. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, June S. “We do not expect any shortage of milk for household purposes this winter, hut we are a little anxious about tho supply for tho schools.” said the chairman of the AVellington City Council milk committee (Cr. L. AfeKenzie) when Afr Picot’s statement was referred to him. Cr. McKenzie said that the recent wet weather had eased the position in AVellington to some extent. The milk committee had to go fairly far afield for its supply this winter, and was obtaining milk from Grey town, Featherston, and the Levin district.
