Details which have been received in New Zealand of the tour abroad of the Archbishop of ’Wellington and Metropolitan of Xew Zealand, Most Rev. Thomas O’Shea, show that in November he was granted an audience with His Holiness Rope Pius XI.. who displayed the greatest interest in the proposals for the national Eucharistic conference in Wellington next year and expressed his gratification at the evidence these gave of the friendly relations existing in New Zealand between the Catholic Church and the Ftate and civic authorities. The death of Pope Pius XI early in Febru nrv necessitated a revision of the Archbishop’s plans. He returned to Rome for file coronrtim o f Phis Xl] and was reassured bv the Holy Father him self that flip iilans made by his predecessor for the New Zealand Congress would he adhered to.
