WOODVILLE & DISTRICT

WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. There was a. large attendance at. the monthly meeting yesterday of the Woodville " Women’s Institute. Miss Beattie (vice-president) presided. The secretary (Mrs E. .7. Harding.) read letters from the president (.Mrs N. M. Burnett), who gave an entertaining description of her tour in the Old Country. Mrs Phillips read the Dominion’s president's letter to members, as published in the official organ. A discussion ensued regarding the holding of a club night, to he organised by a sub-committee of the institute, the object being to enlist, as many young people as possible ana all others who may be interested, in the formation of a club to meet fortnightly the programme to consist of games, euchre physical culture, and arts and crafts. To defrav the incidental expenses a small "charge will be paid. The sub committee will meet on I uesday to arrange for the opening night. Miss Beattie introduced Airs I oananga who delivered an interesting talk on her trip to America where she found that a great deal of ignorance existed regarding New Zealand and of the Maori people. The address proved an informative one, and the speaker was accorded a hearty rote o thanks. Competitions resulted as follow —Best flower in the garden, Mrs Single 1, Miss Oates 2. Best collection of native flora: Mrs Hickson 1. Mrs Worbovs 2. The hostesses were Mesdames H. P. Horne A. .T. Arlidge D Aitchison, Andrews and Bonny, and Misses Aitchison and Aplin.
