Afr anrl Mrs Stewart Gibson, of Ferguson Street, have returned from a visit to Wellington. Mrs W. H. Hall, of Langston Avenue, and her guest, Miss Mary Scott, of Gisborne, leave to-morrow to spend the week-end at Paremata. Miss Margaret Fraser, of AVhangara, Gisborne, who has been visiting her sis-ter-in-law, Airs Bruce Fraser, of Feilding, has returned home. The sympathy of the executive of the West End Progressive Association in the illness of his wife was extended to Mr G. Tremaine, last evening, with the hope that she will soon recover. A successful jumble sale was held at the Y.M.C.A., in aid of the association’s funds, yesterday. Mrs S. G. Northey was in charge and was assisted by Mesdames C. Edwards, Carlisle, Hardie, Mair and Oxenham. Mrs W. F. Field, Airs E. B. Jennings and Miss M. Matlieson paid a visit to the Motuiti Maori branch of the AV.D.F.TJ. for their birthday party recently and were greatly impressed with the enthusiasm there for the W.D.F.TJ. activities. Airs W. H. Knight, of Langston Avenue, has left for Australia, accompanied by her daughter. They will stay with Airs Knight’s parents, Air and Airs A. Thomas, of Alaitland, New South AVales. Farewell parties have been given for Airs Knight by Aiesdnmes K. Henderson. K. Clayton, 11. Gifford Aloorej and J. S. Alonro. “Inquiries are to be made with a view to making arrangements with the Education Department for knitting competitions in schools,” said Air H. Al. Christie, chairman of the New Zealand AVool Publicity Committee, at a meeting in Wellington yesterday. “Great attention is being given by the International Secretariat to the educational side of wool manufacture. The secretariat is arranging a series of lectures to school teachers in England and for the preparation of suitable literature for their use. It is hoped to expand this scheme to New Zealand. The Australian AVool Board is also embarking on a very extensive publicity scheme to expand the sale of wool.”
