When a voting mother at Johannesburg lifted one of her five-month-old twin babies out of their cot a 3ft puff adder slipped out from under the quilt. The woman, Mrs C. Miles, screamed for her husband as the snake reared to strike at her. Mr Miles ran to the room and the snake was killed. It is thought that the adder crept under tho quilt and slept between the two babies lor warmth.
