LIVELY CONTROVERSY.
SYDNEY NEWSPAPERS ANGRY. SYDNEY, May 19. An announcement made bv the Post-master-General (Mr Harrison) in the House of Representatives to-day that the Australi.au Broadcasting Commission, which is controlled the Government. contemplates the publication of a weekly journal containing in addition to radio features, talks and programmes, oversea news, has caused a lively controversy. The daily newspapers .are particularly hostile and take the view that the Broadcasting Commission, which is financed by listeners’ fees, has no right to enter the field of private competition and ‘should concentrate on giving better radio programmes and better service to the public.
