CENTENNIAL MEMORIAL.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —Have our citizens, in reviewing various proposals to commemorate the Centenary, considered the erection of a nurses’ chapel at the Public Hospital? 1 understand such a scheme has been under consideration for some time and was originally formulated by the late Matron McGlue, but has not progressed for want of finance. In my opinion this would he a .worthy way to celebrate such an event and I believe would meet the desire of a large section of our residents in preference to a winter garden. The last-mentioned is certainly a desirable object, but I think the chapel would render a valuable service ■to the staff and nurses and would also serve to commemorate the years of unselfish service to the residents of the city, and Manawatu district by the late Matron McGhie. If this proposal is considered a worthy one perhaps our City Fathers could invite further opinions on the matter and give consideration to it when discussing other proposals in connection with the Centenary Memorial, and I forward this as a suggestion for consideration, if our citizens would consider the support of the proposal.— I am, etc., S.H.J.
