Mrs J. Artrcoe, of Palmerston North, is visiting Auckland. Mr and Mrs T. J. Rodgers, of Church Street, leave next week for a holiday at Paraparaumu Beach. Miss M. "Whyte, of Rollestou Street, left to-day for Christchurch to continue her studies at the Training School and. Canterbury College. Miss Ada Inman, Cattle Valley, Canterbury, has been visiting her sister, Mrs Sydney Quartley, of Palmerston North. Miss Barnicoat, who has been visiting Palmerston' North and Kirnbolton, where she stayed with her brother, Dr. H. J. Barnicoat, has returned to Wellington. Mrs J. Sehvyn Colegrove returns to A tick’.and from Rotorua this week-end and her mother, Mrs J. P. Times, o„f Palmerston North, will be her guest at her home in St. Stephen’s Avenue, Parnell. Miss N. Drever, of the Palmerston Post and Telegraph office, has received notice of her transfer to Whangaroi. Miss Drever has been secretary of the Post and Telegraph Social Club. The opening of this year’s autumn exhibition of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts, which took place in Wellington last night, was one of the best dressed social events of this season, and as a result of the prevailing vogue for Edwardian and Victorian colour schemes, coiffures and evening styles, the long main gallery at the National Art Gallery presented a charming old-world scene as the crowd of guests moved about examining the exhibition. Among those present were Miss Nelle Scanlan and Miss Bahette Rodgers, of Palmerston North.
