SEQUEL TO SHOOTING.
SIX MEN SENTENCED.
IRAQ ASSASSINATION. Received April 18, 11 a.m. BAGDAD, April 17. Sentences varying from eight, to 15 years’ hard labour were imposed on six men at a court-marial in connection with the death of Mr G. E. A C. Monekmason, formerly British Consul at Mosul. The sentence of death on two lads was commuted to 15 years’ hard labour on the grounds of their youth.
A message from Bagdad on April 4 slated that Mr .Monck-.Mason was assassin ated by revolver shots fired by rioters who demonstrated after the news of the death of KingGhazi. The Consulate at Mosul was set on fire. The following day a message from the same source contained the allegation that Britain was in some way responsible for the death of the King. Mr AlonckMason, it was stated, was attempting to pacify the mob when lie was shot.
